Woodland is a small agricultural town situated 20 miles northwest of downtown Sacramento. The city was established in 1871 and sits at the crossroads of Interstate 5 and Highway 113. It serves as the county seat for Yolo County, which is home to U.C. Davis, located just 12 miles south.
Woodland offers residents a great location with family-friendly housing prices as well as many transportation choices for the daily commuter, including efficient bus schedules. Woodland is also near the Sacramento International Airport, making the town an ideal home-base for the traveling professional. Shopping options are plentiful at both box and boutique stores in the area.
Woodland is a bike friendly town, with many people commuting to nearby Davis via bike. There are also 24 parks, comprised of more than 160 acres of open space and recreational areas. Points of interest include the Woodland Opera House and Norcal Indoor Sports, an expansive sporting complex with indoor batting cages, inline hockey, skating rink, gymnastics, and indoor soccer and lacrosse.
Local government, developers, and dedicated residents work tirelessly to preserve the town’s unique elements and buildings, and have recently initiated a revitalization of the historic downtown. The main thoroughfare has been called a “museum of housing styles,” showcasing over 400 buildings built from 1860 to 1940.
The annual Stroll Through History began in 1989 and puts the spotlight on the many Victorian Homes and historical sites every September. Other popular events include First Friday Art Walks, Christmas Holiday Parade, and monthly food truck events. In addition to historic downtown, there are numerous large stores and shopping centers.
Woodland has a population of 58,000 and is served by the Woodland Joint Unified School District. It is also home to Woodland Community College.
